September 14, 2026The Centre for Minority Rights Development (CEMIRIDE), in collaboration with its partners, will convene a side event titled “A Business Framework for Safeguarding Indigenous Peoples’ Rights to Land and Food” on 16 October 2026, during the 89th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) in Dakar, Senegal. The event will bring together human rights advocates and other stakeholders to examine the challenges Indigenous Peoples face in securing their rights to land and food. Discussions will explore historical patterns of land dispossession, relevant human rights jurisprudence, women’s land tenure, children’s rights to food, and the role of accountability in advancing inclusive and rights-based development. Through expert presentations, community evidence and moderated discussions, the session aims to strengthen understanding of the barriers affecting Indigenous communities and identify practical pathways for translating human rights standards into meaningful action. CEMIRIDE looks forward to engaging with partners and stakeholders to advance these important conversations and strengthen efforts towards the protection and promotion of the rights of Indigenous Peoples and minority communities.
