1What is the Kenya Pastoralists Week?
The Kenya Pastoralists’ Week (KPW) is a multi-stakeholder partnership project held annually since 2003. This event brings together different stakeholders drawn from individual pastoralists, pastoralists’ associations, government, private sector, academia and mainstream civil society. Each year about 1000 people grace the event.
2Where will the event take place? When?
KPW 2019 and Kimalel Goat Auction and Cultural Fair will be held at Kimalel Ground, Baringo County from 17th April to 20th April 2019 under the theme: Rangelands economy and pastoralism.
3Who are the organizers of this year's event?
KPW 2019 and Kimalel Goat Auction and Cultural Fair is a partnership initiative between Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) with the County Government of Baringo, The CSOs include; CEMIRIDE host, RECONCILE, the Rangelands Initiative Africa, the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC), Endorois Welfare Council among others, with support from SNV- Netherlands Development Organisation.  
4What is special about KPW 2019?
    This year’s event will not only be the most unique as it will be implemented together with Kimalel goat auction and cultural fair organised by the County Government of Baringo. It will thus include more activities beyond the traditional ones, including tourism as a key activity. For the first time, we shall develop touring package alongside our other activities, uniquely designed to directly support the event. It will therefore be a bigger event, for the second time, all the 15 pastoralist counties will be attending on invitation of the Host, His Excellency Stanley Kiptis the Governor, Baringo County, and the Hon , the Speaker…………, Baringo County Assembly .
5Who will be participating?
During KPW 2019 about 500 pastoralists are expected to attend the national conference and another 1000 are expected at the exhibitions per day. This translates to about 4500 attendees during the event. This will be over and above approximately; 1. 130 county government officials from 13 pastoralist counties 2. 200 civil society organizations members, 3. 10 International Non-Governmental Organisations, 4. 5 Research and academic Institutions 5. 50 Members of Parliament 6. 10 Mainstream print and broadcast media organisations 7. 30 Private Sector institutions. This year, we shall have special participation of pastoralists from Uganda, through the Coalition of Pastoralists CSOs (COPACSO)
6Which activities will be taking place?
A number of activities are lined up National conferences, Exhibitions. Kaldich rowing, Cultural dances , gala night and Kimalel Goat Auction
7What is the main highlight of the event?
The three day products exhibition. The exhibition and services will showcase the potential of pastoralism and opportunities for product marketing. It provides an opportunity for State and non-state actors to showcase their work in climate smart pastoralism, publications and initiatives in promoting climate smart pastoralism; and offering corporate organisations a market for their products and services. Some of the products and services include: i) Livestock insurance ii) Micro finance (supporting pastoralist pastoralism) iii) Clean Energy Initiatives
