August 6, 2025CEMIRIDE recently took part in a two-day Civil Society Engagement Forum (CEF) on the 7th April 2026- 9th April 2026, held in Machakos; working in close collaboration with the National Treasury. The focus of this forum was to advance meaningful conversations around climate change and human rights, bringing together diverse stakeholders for impactful dialogue.
As an influential member of the Consortium of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) partnering on the World Bank-supported Financing Locally Led Climate Change Adaptation (FLLoCA) initiative, CEMIRIDE contributed significantly to discussions aimed at strengthening institutional coordination and aligning programmes.
The goal was to foster more effective interventions for climate justice and human rights, with special attention to the needs and perspectives of Minority communities and Indigenous Peoples.
Key outcomes from the engagement included:
• Enhanced alignment among stakeholders on issues relating to climate justice, natural resource governance, human rights, Indigenous Peoples’ rights and grassroots involvement.
• Recognition of CEMIRIDE’s expertise and leadership within the consortium, particularly in advancing the rights of minorities and Indigenous Peoples.
• Shared commitment to implementing initiatives nationwide and expanding strategic partnerships for broader impact.
• Prioritisation of capacity building and the establishment of sustainable coordination mechanisms to support long-term success.
• Reinforcement of ethics, transparency, and accountability in managing public finances across CSOs and all implementing partners, ensuring trust, integrity and the effective delivery of climate justice initiatives.
This engagement underscored the vital importance of cultivating strategic partnerships, building capacity and maintaining robust coordination structures. It also highlighted the necessity of upholding strong ethical governance to support effective, scalable interventions in climate justice, natural resource governance and human rights; especially for the protection and empowerment of minority and Indigenous communities.
