Give indigenous peoples access to land, group asks Kenya
February 19, 2025The RAISE Consortium is preparing its Phase II proposal for the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC), with the Pan African Group, comprising the Rural Women’s Assembly (RWA), CEMIRIDE, and Réseau Billital Maroobé (RBM),playing a key role.
To strengthen the African context, strategy, and activities within the proposal, CEMIRIDE will host an in-person Pan African meeting in Nairobi alongside community feedback sessions for Kenya’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) implementation plan. These sessions will bring together national and regional representatives to develop actionable UPR implementation matrices at both national and county levels, ensuring that accepted recommendations are retained in Kenya’s final UPR Working Group Report.
The meeting will:
Refine RAISE’s engagement framework for Phase II.
Agree on 2–3 priority advocacy topics and target institutions.
Plan two major Pan African activities for 2025, including UPR implementation and anchoring Kenya’s Agroecological Strategy.
Facilitate knowledge sharing on post-UPR advocacy, benefiting countries like South Africa and Niger.
RAISE will co-fund travel and accommodation for representatives from across Africa, ensuring diverse and inclusive participation. This gathering will be a pivotal step in uniting voices and strategies for rural and peasant communities across the continent.
