STREVOW Policy Dialogue with Government

The East African Regional Institute for Legal and Policy Studies (EARILPS), an organisation based in Uganda has committed to strengthen women with disabilities WWDs’ voices in policy dialogues, introduce a WWD focused Climate Change Policy course, and engage government stakeholders on mainstreaming climate change priorities of WWDs, including those from indigenous community.
EARILPS made this commitment during the recent Uganda Policy Dialogue convened by CEMIRIDE, in Kampala. The Policy Dialogue brought together WWDs, including indigenous women, and was convened, as part of the 3-year Strengthening the Voices of Women with Disability to Actively Participate in Climate Change Policy and Negotiations (STREVOW) project.
The policy dialogue was used as a platform to build the WWDs skills in policy advocacy, climate justice, and inclusive governance. Drawing from the Uganda WWDs Engagement Framework, the participants explored ways to meaningfully engage governments in climate policy and negotiations, while highlighting the urgent need for mainstreaming the WWDs in the implementation of Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).
The STREVOW project is funded by the Africa Climate Change Fund (ACCF) of the African Development Bank (AFDB) and aims to enhance technical skills and participation of women with disabilities in climate change policy and negotiations.
